Demonstrate knowledge of solar system objects, motions, and planetary science.
Physical Science & Chemistry
- Div B
Circuit Lab
Electricity, circuits, and measurement
Answer theory questions and often complete hands-on circuit tasks involving DC circuits and measurements.
- Div B
Crime Busters
Forensic analysis for Division B
Analyze evidence (powders, chromatograms, prints, and more) to reconstruct a crime scenario.
- Div B
Food Science
Chemistry and biology of food
Explore chemistry concepts through foods: composition, reactions, nutrition, and lab skills.
- Div B
Thermodynamics
Heat, energy transfer, and devices
Understand heat transfer and often build/test an insulated device per the rules.
Technology & Engineering
- Div B
Boomilever
Cantilever structure efficiency
Design and build a cantilevered wooden structure to support load efficiently from a vertical wall.
- Div B
Elastic Launch Glider
Rubber-powered glider flight
Build a glider launched by elastic energy to maximize flight score under the rules.
- Div B
Hovercraft
Air-cushion vehicle design
Design and operate a hovercraft that meets dimensional rules and completes scored tasks.
- Div B
Ping Pong Parachute
Egg-drop style parachute for a ping pong ball
Build a parachute system to safely/scoreably deliver a ping pong ball under event constraints.
- Div B
Roller Coaster
Track design for a vehicle/marble run
Design a roller-coaster track that meets height/time/accuracy requirements in the rules.
- Div B
Scrambler
Rubber-band powered vehicle
Build a rubber-band powered vehicle to stop close to a target distance with high score.
Inquiry & Nature of Science
- Div B
Codebusters
Classical cryptanalysis
Decrypt ciphertext using classical ciphers as a timed team event.
- Div B
Experimental Design
On-site experiment and write-up
Design, run, and write a controlled experiment during the tournament with provided materials.
- Div B
Write It Do It
Technical writing and building
One partner writes build instructions; the other rebuilds a structure from those instructions alone.
